Bad Theory Labs Launches BTL Commercial for Government and Enterprise AI

LAGOS, Nigeria, 12 September 2026 — Bad Theory Labs (BTL), an AI research and deployment company building frontier models and systems around capability efficiency, today announced BTL Commercial. The new arm will take on model development, applied research and deployment work for governments and enterprises.

BTL Commercial will work with organisations whose requirements are not met by a general-purpose hosted model. Their data may need to remain inside systems they control. A model may have to run on fixed hardware, meet a strict latency requirement, work in an underserved language, or operate inside an existing critical workflow.

The work will cover three areas:

  • developing or adapting open-weight models for a specific operating environment;
  • reducing the compute and memory needed to run capable models, then deploying them on client-controlled infrastructure; and
  • applied research where the required capability or method does not yet exist.

Each engagement begins with the existing system, the constraint blocking it and the result the client needs. BTL and the client will agree on a baseline, an acceptance test and a clear definition of completion before the main work begins.

"We have spent the last year building our own models and measuring what survives when we make them smaller and cheaper to run," said Al-ameen, founder of Bad Theory Labs. "BTL Commercial lets an institution bring us a hard, specific problem and hire us to solve it. That could mean fitting a capable model onto hardware already in place, adapting one to local data and language, or building a system that cannot send sensitive work to somebody else's API. We agree on the result first, then we build toward it."

BTL's published work includes Range Before Representation, which increased measured behavioural retention from 77.1% to 95.8% at the same byte budget, and Behaviour Relearned Quantization, where small expert matrices recovered 49.4% of measured behaviour after compression compared with 23% for a much larger dense matrix. BTL also develops and releases open-weight models, including BTL-4 and BTL-4 Compact.

BTL Commercial is now accepting enquiries from governments, enterprises and research institutions. Organisations can write to hello@badtheorylabs.com with the system they have, the constraint they are working under and the result they need, or contact BTL through badtheorylabs.com/contact.

About Bad Theory Labs

Bad Theory Labs is an AI research and deployment company building frontier models and systems around capability efficiency. Its work spans model development, evaluation, inference, memory and agent systems, with the goal of making capable intelligence efficient enough to own and run on infrastructure its users control.

BTL publishes open-weight models and the research behind them. Its released work includes BTL-4, a 35.1B-parameter mixture-of-experts model, and BTL-4 Compact, a 9.96 GB version built for local inference.
